The Plot Thickens

Our little patch is coming along, we’ve been growing things from scraps and sprouting seeds from our food:

We picked up a load of pallets and boxing from our local business park, which we used to make planting beds on the sunny side, moving the wood chip to the shady side for both natural area and human use. We also acquired more herbs, some fruit trees, berry shrubs, and annuals; and made a couple decorative items too:

Getting plants in has been such an uplifting experience, and we’re loving it. We have however had a couple casualties to these guys…

…so we’re working on resolving that. We did a bunch of research (you can find the results here), and started with temporary beer traps and copper wire around the pots of the most vulnerable plants, while we work on the longer term of creating environments for slug predators to thrive.

We also visited Nomadic community garden and Rochester square garden. And, we started a permaculture course with the open permaculture school.

There’s plenty more to do and learn, but we’re absolutely loving growing food and we think this garden has finally acquired the life it’s been missing.
